Japanese na adjective negative form

Japanese has two types of adjective. There is a way to express negative form of these adjectives. On this session we will learn how to express negative form of na adjectives in Japanese language.

To make na adjective negative form:

Replace では ありません (dewa arimasen) with な (na) at the end of the word.
OR
Replace じゃない (jaa nai) with な (na) at the end of the word.

Lets see some common na adjectives with negative form.

Na adjective: かんたん (kantan-na) – 簡単なeasy
Negative: かんたん では ありません
Negative: かんたん じゃない
Meaning: not easy.

Na adjective: ひま (hima-na) – 熱なnot busy
Negative: ひま では ありません
Negative: ひま じゃない
Meaning: busy.

Na adjective: きれい (kirei-na) – 綺麗なbeautiful
Negative: きれい では ありません
Negative: きれい じゃない
Meaning: not beautiful.

Na adjective: にぎやか (nigiyaka-na) – 賑やかなbusy (area)
Negative: にぎやか では ありません
Negative: にぎやか じゃない
Meaning: not busy (area).

Na adjective: しずか (shizuka-na) – 静かなquiet (area)
Negative: しずか では ありません
Negative: しずか じゃない
Meaning: not quiet (area).

Na adjective: べんり (benri-na) – 便利なconvenient
Negative: べんり では ありません
Negative: べんり じゃない
Meaning: not convenient.

Na adjective: ふべん (fuben-na) – 不便なinconvenient
Negative: ふべん では ありません
Negative: ふべん じゃない
Meaning: not inconvenient.

Na adjective: げんき (genki-na) – 元気なhealthy
Negative: げんき では ありません
Negative: げんき じゃない
Meaning: not healthy.

Na adjective: しんせつ (shinsetsu-na) – 親切なkind
Negative: しんせつ では ありません
Negative: しんせつ じゃない
Meaning: not kind.

Na adjective: ゆうめい (yumei-na) – 有名なfamous
Negative: ゆうめい では ありません
Negative: ゆうめい じゃない
Meaning: not famous.

Na adjective: はで (hade-na) – 派手なshiny
Negative: はで では ありません
Negative: はで じゃない
Meaning: not shiny.

Na adjective: じみ (jimi-na) – 地味なsimple/plain
Negative: じみ では ありません
Negative: じみ じゃない
Meaning: not simple/plain.
